Thank you for taking the time to check out the Castine Historical Society website.

Here you will find information about our programs, walking tours, events, exhibits, and recently added, the on-line catalog of collections. I also invite you to peruse old and new issues of our newsletter, The Castine Visitor, for thought-provoking articles about the history of Castine and the people who shaped that history.

The enthusiastic volunteer docents look forward to welcoming you in person to the Abbott School.  We invite you to come and be intrigued by our newly created exhibit, “A History of Castine in 40 Objects.” This unique exhibit highlights various aspects of Castine’s history by telling stories through exciting and interesting objects from our permanent collection.

Also on display at the Abbott School is the stunning Castine Bicentennial Quilt depicting the history of Castine. And for those with an interest in the Revolutionary War come find out about the Penobscot Expedition, a naval disaster for the American forces that took place right here in Castine. In the exhibit you’ll learn that Paul Revere was not who we thought he was!

We trust that you will find something here that will spark your interest in the Castine Historical Society and encourage you to explore the rich history of Castine.

None of these events and programs would happen without the support and dedication of our
volunteers, staff, and our members. If you are not yet a member of the Historical Society, I encourage you to join us and if you are a current member, I thank you for your support and ongoing commitment. Interested in volunteering?
