In January of 2024, Castine, like many towns along the Maine coast, suffered catastrophic damage to its waterfront from back-to-back storms.  A town of under 1,000 year-round residents means that this is a close-knit community.  After both storms, residents rallied to help each other with clean up and preparation for the next storm.

Thanks to volunteer Ken Scheer, the storm damage and clean-up effort has been documented and preserved in a living history video called “Castine is a Family”.  Through news footage and interviews with Castine residents affected by the storms, Scheer’s video gives a taste of how Castine pulled together as families do to help one another.
